A Love For Antiques

Tipton goes on, "Years ago most antique dealers dealt mostly with serious collectors, and now a lot of the things I'm selling are being installed in rooms and they're just fitting a need."  Most distressing to Tipton is that someone would buy a lovely antique and see it just as a status symbol rather than appreciate what they have.  "And then I have people at the other end of the spectrum that really, really love old things but they can't afford them and we try to work with them.  I can't afford to be the bank, but I can work with them after a fashion," says Tipton.

Living Room
The painting above the fireplace is believed to be a portrait of a young Louis XIV by Simon Vouet, a court painter of Louis XIII's.  Tipton purchased it from a dealer in Shelbyville.  The coffee table is an 1810 lacquer paper mache tray, made into a table in the 1920s.  Tipton purchased the table at a local auction.  The aubusson rug is from Francis Lee Jasper Rugs.  The large sofa pillow was made from a 17th century tapestry fire screen cover.  The sofa is French, period Louis XVI.  Interior designer Rick Jenkins helped Tipton and his wife Connie bring cohesiveness to the room and create the perfect backdrop for their beautiful antiques by selecting the paint color for the walls, floor coverings, and a few upholstery fabrics.
