Helpful Hints for The California Vase�

 

*Flowers*

Strip:

All leaves and foliage from stems.

Clip:

Give a fresh cut to each stem bottom. A 1" 45� angle cut is ideal.

Condition:

Soak flowers for a few hours in fresh water with floral preservative 

Style:

Arrange flowers to suit your fancy.
 

 *Greens*

Strip:

Strip lower leaves that will submersed in water or floral foam.

Clip:

Cross-cut woody stem to allow for water to be drawn up into the stem.

Condition:

Soak in fresh water.

Style:

Greens are recommended to start arrangement and establish the shape and dimension.
 

*Fruits & Vegetables*

  Many hearty fruits and vegetables lend themselves beautifully to floral arrangements. Choose firm fruits and vegetables that compliment the colors of the flowers. e.g. small green apples with white lilac, kumquats with yellow roses etc.
   
  *General Ideas*
Texture: Lacy, dense.

Color:

Reds, blues, white, yellows.
Shape: Round, pointed, spiky, bell.
Suggestion: Consider mixing spiky spires (delphinium, snap dragons) with round flat flowers (daisies). Use greens of different shades of blue and silver for interest.
