Living In A "Big Girl" House

Because they moved into the house only four months ago, Stough isn't sure which room will get the most use. So far the family spends most of their time in the light-filled family room.  Possibly it could be because it feels more like a summer room.  In the colder months, the red room might find them nuzzled in around the cozy fireplace.  Although the fireplace is original to the house, the red room is not.  In their last house, Lee Stough used the same faux finish technique in the same warm red color.  She loved it so much she had to have it in this house as well because "it's rich and different, and it glows at night," which makes the perfect setting for a cold winter night.

You never know until you move into a house how you're going to live in it.  "I'm so glad everything wasn't finished at once because the house dictates things to you," said Stough.  Designing a home is a process.  And part of that process is living in the house a little bit to see how you're using the rooms.

As if reminding us, she says, "The same thing is true for my clients."   That's why it takes a long time to achieve a beautiful, comfortable home.

Living (Red) Room
"I had it before and I had to have it again," says interior designer Lee Stough about her red living room.  "It glows at night."  The needlepoint rug with an architectural theme came from Francis Lee Jasper Rugs.  Above the original fireplace is a 19th century painting from Trace Mayer Antiques.  A touch of whimsy very representative of Lee's personality is a leather pig footstool.
