Finding Comfort In The Details

Janice believes the choice of colors along with the variations of textures is what has created a comfortable home for her family.  "The house does have a lot of texture," confirms Lewis, going over all the different ones she sees in the kitchen/family room alone.  "The distressed leather sofa, the hardwood floors, the tumbled-stone backsplash in the kitchen, the glass (in the) windows, rattan accessory pieces, pottery pieces, wrought iron table and chairs, and big thick shag rugs in both rooms," each add to the comfortable look, she says.  Not to mention the houseplants and natural dried grass arrangements that fill the house with life.  The natural arrangements have a complexity of textures including berries, pods, feathers, sticks, and grasses.

Bedroom
Janice let their 10-year-old daughter help decorate her room.  "She has one of the best rooms in the house," says Janice.  The border is hand-painted and the pillow on the bed says "Whatever".
