Christmas occupies much of Parkinson's thoughts all year, which is evident by the three closets filled to the brim with Christmas presents that she shops for no matter what the date on the calendar. "I buy most of it on sale. That's the ticket," she says. Her children call it "the store". "I've just got stuff piled everywhere." And though that is true, it's very organized. For instance one shelf holds nothing but candles, and, in a separate closet, she has nothing but boxes in which to wrap the gifts.
Parkinson says one of her biggest joys of Christmas is "planning gifts" for people: coming up with something special, wrapping it and thinking about that person when you put their name to it. "I've been preparing for it all year so it's fun for me when it finally gets to happen."
