A Love For Antiques

Tipton is so influenced by the character of the furniture maker that he prefers continental furniture, particularly Italian, over English furniture primarily found in this area of the country.  "I like the continental furniture because there is more of the maker in the furniture.  The English were copyist.  You've heard of Chippendale, Sheraton, and Hepplewhite, well, they all published cabinetmakers guides and you can honestly measure the height of an English chair seat and know whether it is legitimate or not because they were that particular about what they did."

Dining Room
Tipton had the cabinets built in to add extra storage and display his faience collection. His favorite antique in the dining room is the chandelier he purchased 25 years ago from the Strassel Company (no longer in business).  Louise Mendel, owner of the Strassel Co., purchased the chandelier at the Italian Pavilion during the Paris Exhibition.  Interior designer Rick Jenkins selected the burgundy brown wall color to play off the same color found on the lacquer tray coffee table in the living room.
