An Unexpected Move Toward The Traditional

Along with a change in location, Cook made a big change in decor.  The house in Lake Forest was contemporary, done in purple and teal with pieces from ultra contemporary interior designer Dennis Tapp.  "I always wanted a house that looked Floridian, and that house looked like that," says Cook.

Looking back Cook says that was a phase she got caught up in when the homearamas in Lake Forest were so popular.  With her husband in the building business, she had a lot of exposure to the homearama.  One thing that triggered her need to move on was her love of collecting.  "I love the Herron pieces, I love Swarski, and I don't think that mixes well with contemporary things."

Living Room
The impressive desk is a Biedermeir fruitwood parcel gilt, bronze, and ebonized secretary, Austrian or German circa 1820-1835. Don and Debbie purchased the desk at last yearŐs Louisville Antique Show with assistance from Steve Tipton. Hanging on the wall next to the desk are antique silk needlework scenes circa 1770-1820. The coffee table is an inlaid walnut Louis XV style dressing table with Scalamandre silk lining inside, circa 1760. The box sitting on top is a gilt, bronze, and enamel jewel casket in Louis XVl style, circa 1870. Looking through the door to the foyer is a rare walnut Louis XVI commode, circa 1770-1780. A top the commode is a 17th Century Italian polychrome and carved wood reliquary bust. All from Steve Tipton Antiques. The Verde green marble floor was an addition, adding more elegance to these rooms.
